A group of 30 NGOs under the auspices of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) has announced a mass rally on April 21 to oppose the "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) agenda" and "free sex".

According to the Sunday edition of Umno-linked daily Utusan Malaysia , JMM chairperson Azwanddin Hamzah said the rally will be held at Dataran Merdeka.

NONE “We do not discriminate against any group but an NGO should be created to rehabilitate our friends who face problems to the right path, not to promote vice,” he was quoted as saying.

Azwanddin said that he will also reveal the names of NGOs which have been receiving funds from pro-LGBT international organisations to promote the community’s way of life during the rally.

The planned rally comes exactly one week after the anti-PTPTN protest and a week before the Bersih 3.0 rally at the same venue.

Their move contradicts the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) that in its 2011 report had called on the government to enact laws to protect the rights of sexual minorities.

“There is a need to establish legal and other forms of protection and redress in the event of violence against sexual minorities, in full consultation with them,” stated Suhakam in its report tabled in Parliament last week.
