Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Koh Tsu Koon said he will only serve in the cabinet until the next general election.

NONE Koh ( right ), who was sworn in today for his second term as a senator, added that he will not be contesting in the next polls.

“Coincidentally, April 8 marked the completion of my 30 years in full-time political work since 1982.

“Hence, I have sought the prime minister’s understanding that I shall serve in the cabinet only until the coming general election,” said Koh in a statement after the swearing-in ceremony.

The Gerakan chief added that after the 13th GE, speculated to be called in the second half of this year, he will devote himself “full-time to Gerakan until the party elections".

In his role as senator, Koh said he planned to “take the new Rukun Tetangga Act through the Dewan Rakyat after mid-April and Dewan Negara (Senate) in early May”.

This morning five BN leaders were sworn in as senators at a ceremony at the Dewan Negara, Parliament main building.

Along with Koh were Jamil Khir Baharom, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, Deputy Finance Minister Awang Adek Hussin and Selangor Umno women's wing leader Raja Ropiaah Raja Abdullah.
