A Malaysian Communications and Mulimedia Commission (MCMC) deputy director (content and enforcement) claimed trial in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today to abetting his wife and a private company managing director in corruptly receiving RM250,000.

Noor Mohamed Khan Mohamed Mastan, 39, allegedly abetted Suraya Hani Ahmad Zaki and Noorshidin Mohd Noor to corruptly receive RM250,000 from Syarikat Siaga Informatics Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Mohd Shukri Othman at Siaga Informatics, Suite 2-6, Level 6, Jalan USJ 9/5T, Subang Business Centre, Subang Jaya about 10.25am on March 14, this year.

The sum was purportedly an inducement to help Syarikat Siaga Informatics secure a letter of award in the “tender for designing, implementing, testing and commissioning of MCMC digital forensics laboratory” in MCMC.

The charge under Section 16 (a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, and read together with Section 28 (1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009, provides for a maximum 20-year jail term and fine of up to five times the amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Noor Mohamed Khan also pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of abetting Suraya Hani and Noorshidin to cheat Mohd Shukri by leading him to believe that they had helped Siaga Informatics obtain the ‘letter of award’ for the same tender, and inducing him to hand RM250,000 to them at the same place, time and date.

The charge is under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 107 and Section 511 of the same Code.

Judge Asmadi Hussin allowed bail of RM10,000 in one surety, pending re-mention on April 23.

In a related case at another Sessions Court, Noorshidin, 40, and Suraya Hani, 32, an accounts manager at a private company, pleaded not guilty to corruptly receiving the amount.

The duo, who were arrested on March 14, also claimed trial to an alternative charge of trying to cheat Mohd Shukri.

Judge M Bakri Abd Majid set bail at RM15,000 in one surety each for Noorshidin and Suraya Hani, who is two months' pregnant, pending re-mention on April 27.

He also ordered their passports to be impounded by the court until disposal of the case.

The MACC was represented by prosecuting officer Mahamad Sukri Abu Seman.
