PAS Youth yesterday criticised the actions of several people who it said resorted to violence after an annual general meeting to select the committee members of a mosque in Bangi, Selangor.

A scuffle occurred at the As Solehin Mosque in Teras Jernang, Bandar Baru Bangi, on April 8, resulting in its nazir (administrator) Dr Abd Basir Alias, being injured.

riduan mohd nor PAS Youth information chief Ridhuan Mohd Nor (right) said this should not have happened as violence was against Islam.

"The mosque is a place for people to pray, have community activities and to gain knowledge. The mosque committee has the responsibility of organising such activities," Ridhuan said.

"The people are reminded to respect mosques and to avoid conflicts or fights that do not bring any benefit. In fact, such things will result in people shying away from mosques."

It was reported by Harakah Daily that 45-year-old Basir suffered a black eye after a man, said to be dissatisfied with the mosque election, attacked him.

The mosque's annual general meeting ended when an opposing group approached the attacker, shouting abuses.

"I did not anticipate this. Violence in a mosque is inappropriate," Basir said, adding that one member of the group head-butted him, resulting in an injury to his right eye that required surgery.

Basir lodged a police report at the Kajang district police station after the incident.
