The Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) Citizenship Committee will prepare the terms of reference on the information and objective for establishing the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) concerning the problems of illegal immigrants in the state.

Its chairperson, Joseph Pairin Kitingan, said he expected the terms of reference to be ready very soon and would present it to the BN top leadership for further action.

“We need to produce within one week the consolidated, coordinated and compiled document attending to the terms of reference which will be submitted to the BN top leadership and prime minister,” he said at a media conference after chairing the meeting in Kota Kinabalu today.

Pairin, who is also the president of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), said the meeting also called on the federal government to speed up the establishment of the RCI.

Among the guidelines proposed were the law on enforcement and prevention of entry by illegal immigrants, membership of the RCI which would include representatives from all the component parties, and the RCI decision which would take at least six months up to a maximum of two years, said the Sabah deputy chief minister.
