Muhyiddin: Gov't bears 85 to 95% of tuition fee subsidy

vox populi small thumbnail Onyourtoes: When discussing the PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund), I think we cannot avoid looking at the way it is managed. It is grossly inefficient and incompetent.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, why don't you ask PTPTN to supply you with full information on how the loans were given out, to who, how many are actually paying back and how many have not paid back a single cent since the loan was dished out to them.

Why don't you look at the profile of students receiving the loan, not just for tuition fees but also for living allowances?

What was the original intention of PTPTN? Was it supposed to be given to all students, irrespective of their financial background?

This is the problem with our nincompoop policy. Each time we give something, whether loans, scholarships or subsidies, they become universal entitlements.

ONG: A long time ago, a certain section of the Malaysian community started to develop the culture which deems government loans to be income.

We all know that a loan needs to be repaid whereas income, once received, belongs to the recipient.

Because our idiotic government did not take serious steps to stem this undesirable culture, it became like an endemic disease that has now spread to other Malaysian communities.

Rebicon: DPM, can you please explain this? Our country has reached the maximum number of medical colleges for a population of 26 million. It has been predicted that we are reaching saturation level for doctors.

Why are we still sending our students for medical studies overseas? Isn't this a waste of funds? Can't these funds be used to ease the financial burden of local students?

CiViC: Muhyiddin is taking the people as fools again. Everyone and anyone knows tertiary education fees are highly marked up.

If you are so confident that the government is subsidising so much, then just show us the figures.

Rick Teo: Paying 85 percent of students fees is not enough. The government, without corruption and wastage of public funds, should be able to provide all students free education. Instead, the bulk of public funds are channel to Umno leaders and their cronies.

If more senior police officers are like you, then even the bigwig Umno politicians will have cause not to continue their evil and corrupt ways.

Loyal Malaysian: I will hesitate to make a comparison as to the degree of cruelty in the two cases, but I do agree with Mat Zain's contention that until and unless closure is found, references to them will arise for those responsible sometimes in most embarrassing circumstances.

I think it is really too much to expect PM Najib Razak to do the proper thing now, given that he's also the beneficiary of how the murder trial was conducted. Thus, that Parting Gale chap will not be brought to account for his many alleged misdeeds.

Mosque committees ordered to attend PM function

Bender: Najib's political career is about to end. He is on life support. Forcing unwilling people to attend his functions is like giving him much needed oxygen to prolong his crippled political life.

While I disagree with what these people are doing - i.e., the Pejabat Kadi, PPD (Pejabat Pelajaran Daerah), JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara), etc, in forcing people to attend Najib's functions - I also see it as indications of how chronic Najib's illness really is.

Adding salt to the wound is the fact that such thing happened in Johor, a supposedly Umno stronghold.

Of course, it's wrong to do such things, but if I were in kadi Bahrin Jalal's shoes, I'd probably do the same, not because I want to (or because I see nothing wrong with it), but because I'm forced to do so.

I'm hoping Bahrin did this because he had to, not because he chose to. I hate to condemn people, but if Bahrin did what he did knowing well that it is wrong to do so, then I pray to God to have mercy on him and his family.

Truth Seeker: Bahrin, please try save some money to have your participants to car pool for future functions. The money saved could be handed out to the real poor and needy.

One Hand Cover the Sky: I was told even school teachers were ordered by the education department to stop their Saturday extra classes activities to join the crowd to welcome PM to Batu Pahat. This is clearly an abuse of power by the authority.

Tholu: When one has to cover up an expose, one resorts to lies and fact-twisting. The kadi's letter says, "...masjid hendaklah memberikan wang sebanyak RM50 kepada individu yang mewakili masjid masing-masing."

Isn't he being stupid to say five people in a car share RM10 each when the letter says the RM50 is for 'petrol allowance.' Does he mean even passengers in a car get 'petrol allowance'?
