Two senators nominated by the former Terengganu PAS government will remain members of the Dewan Negara until their term ends in December as there is no provision in the Federal Constitution to revoke their appointments.

Senate President Abdul Hamid Pawanteh said today that it was up to them to resign or stay on, although Terengganu is now ruled by the Barisan Nasional (BN).

reported that the term of the senators - PAS deputy president Hassan Shukri (photo left) and Safinah Jusoh - is scheduled to end on Dec 19.

Told to resign

Yesterday Dungun Member of Parliament Rosli Mat Hassan said the two should resign immediately that the current BN-led state government should nominate replacements.

Rosli, was a senator from 1997 to 2003, said PAS-nominated senators would not be able to explain the BN government's policies in Dewan Negara.

Earlier today, Terengganu MCA deputy head Wong Foon Meng was sworn in as Senator before Abdul Hamid in Parliament House.

Wong was nominated by the BN Government as its representative in the Dewan Negara.

Wong, 50, a graduate in mechanical engineering from Univerisiti Teknologi Malaysia, is also adviser to the Kuala Terengganu MCA Division and Terengganu BN treasurer.
