The Kuantan Municipal Council (KMC) is disappointed with the attitude of political parties which put up party flags at several housing areas and streets around the town.
KMC president Zulkifli Yaakob said the council would be taking down banners, posters and flags of political parties.
"Even though the 13th general election is approaching, it is still too early to raise party flags," he told Bernama here today.
He said KMC would be dismantling the posters to ensure the installation of posters and banners did not affect traffic and endanger pedestrians.
He said among the areas found decorated with banners and posters were Jalan Beserah, Jalan Air Putih and in housing areas.
Zulkifli said all political parties which planned to hang their respective banners, posters and flags during the election needed to apply for permit from the police not from KMC.
He said each political party contesting in the general election needed to comply with the instructions issued by police to ensure the installation of election campaign materials proceeded smoothly.
"All posters, flags and banners should also be taken down after the set period," he said.
