Premier Najib Abdul Razak must clarify if there is any truth to news reports that two private companies are preparing to acquire the site on which the Kelab Golf Negara Subang (KGNS) is located.

NONE Describing the move as yet another “piratisation” exercise, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng cited reports that MMC chairperson Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary and Sunway Bhd have submitted a proposal to acquire the 132 ha site.

The land, said Lim, has an estimated commercial value exceeding RM5 billion.

KGNS president Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas has reportedly cautioned that, if the plan proceeds, it would be political suicide for BN as the club members include prominent personalities who would be prepared to defend KGNS or go to court.

 

“It is learnt that Perspective Lane (M) Sdn Bhd, a private investment vehicle controlled by Syed Mokhtar, and Sunway City Sdn Bhd, had submitted a plan late last year to the federal government to acquire the land,” Lim said in a statement today.

NONE “Even though Megat Najmuddin (right) has that denied Syed Moktar is involved, an application appears to be submitted by some parties to acquire it. The PM needs to give a full explanation to uphold accountability in the interest of the public as well as club members.”

He said this once again shows that a multi-billion ringgit privatisation deal is being transacted without an open tender.

If the reports are true, he said, the “land grab” would be comparable with the acquisition exercise for the mass rapid transit land project, even in heritage areas of Kuala Lumpur.

The Edge has quoted Sunway's property division managing director Ho Hon Sang as saying that the matter is at “an exploratory stage”.

‘1Malaysia land grab’

The acquisition plan is set to become yet another ‘piratisation’ exercise that exemplifies the “rent-seeking and crony capitalistic culture synonymous with the BN government”, Lim said.

“However, this time the proposal has evoked a strong and emotional response from prominent Umno members like Megat Najmuddin, who is an Umno disciplinary committee member ....

                    

“The only thing that Najib and BN have managed to prove is that, regardless whether 1Malaysia is genunine or sincere, there are no racial boundaries when it comes to ... (a) land grab.

“It is not just the Chinese, Iban, Kadazan, Orang Asli or the Indians but (also) the Malays who have become victims (of) the 1Malaysia land grab.”
