State MIC Youth chief J Dhina said when contacted that he received a call from a member of Subbaiyah’s (
right
) family at 5.30am informing him about his death.
He died in his sleep, believed to be due to a heart attack.
The former state executive council member and two-term Prai assemblyperson was appointed state MIC chief since April 2009 and was named a senator in April last year.
He leaves behind a wife, Vallini, and two children, Gowri and Ganesh.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow at his home.
Meanwhile, a Dewan Negara member, Senator Boon Som Inong, expressed shock over Subbaiyah’s death, saying he met him two days ago in parliament and had a meal together.
“He was fine and we talked as usual. I’m shocked; I have lost a good friend in the Dewan Negara,” he said.
