Umno Youth’s Community Complaints Bureau today settled assessment arrears to Kuala Lumpur City Hall amounting to RM5,766.50 for the memorial home of national icon P Ramlee, which is being occupied by his daughter-in-law Suria Bakar.

Its chairperson, Muhd Khairun Aseh, said the payment was made possible through public donations obtained yesterday after airing 43-year-old Suria’s plight in the news.

“The bureau is concerned about the welfare of P Ramlee’s heirs and hope that this home registered under the name of Ramli Bin Putih (P Ramlee) will not be confiscated,” he told reporters after visiting Suria at the house in Taman Setapak, Kuala Lumpur today.

On Monday, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail had stated that assessment arrears of RM4,385 had accumulated after Suria, Nasir P Ramlee’s widow, failed to pay arrears of RM10,151.50 for the past 10 years, which prompted DBKL to seize the house. Nasir is P Ramlee’s son.

Muhd Khairun said they also managed to secure a scholarship from Lim Kok Wing University for Suria’s son Zakaria Nasir, 21, to pursue a professional diploma in sound and music design.
