Despite stiff resistance, delegates of Koperasi Permodalan Felda, the biggest cooperative in the country, yesterday approved the proposed listing of Felda Global Venture Holdings Bhd (FGVH).

A total of 1,102 out of 1,227 delegates, according to Utusan Malaysia , backed the move for the listing, expected either next month or in June.

Yesterday's four-hour extraordinary general meeting arrived at the decision.

KPF owns a 51 percent stake in Felda Holdings while Felda Holdings's in FGVH is 49 percent.

NONE Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Federal Land Development Authority, Ahmad Maslan ( right ) said this shows that the Felda settlers are not easily duped by the opposition.

Several Felda settlers had recently filed a court injunction to stop the EGM. However, the Kuantan High Court had dismissed the application on April 2.

Justice Mariana Yahya had ruled that it was premature for an injunction to be issued against the equity disposal as KPF delegates had only planned to discuss the matter and no decision had been made.

The settlers had twice sought the injunction , forcing the KPF EGM to be postponed until yesterday.

The legal move was resorted to by the PAS-linked NGO, the Association of Felda Settlers' Children (Anak).
