Thirty alumni of the Emotional and Spiritual Quotient (ESQ) leadership training have asked the National Fatwa Council to announce its findings on the course after monitoring it for almost two years.

One of the alumni of the course, Roseli Saat Al-Gayauwi, said as the council allowed the leadership training to be conducted subject to certain conditions, the final decision should be announced to end uncertainties over the course.

“The decision will clean the cobwebs in our minds over the alleged falsehood incorporated in ESQ books and modules. As members of the first batch of alumni, we want to know the outcome of the surveillance. We want to know who is responsible in monitoring the modules and his credentials.

“Is the monitoring being done in a transparent manner? We want to have access to the monitoring report,” he told a news conference jointly held with Federal Territories mufti Zahidi Wan Teh in Kuala Lumpur today.

On June 16, 2010, the National Fatwa Council ruled that the ESQ leadership training can be conducted with full supervision by the Syariah panel appointed by ESQ after the Federal Territories mufti had banned the course on June 10, 2010.

Zahidi, however, said the Federal Territories Religious Council still banned ESQ on the grounds that its training breached Islamic teachings and “supports  liberalism by making free interpretation of the Quran and (supports the concept of) pluralism in religions, which says that all religions are the same and true”.
