Best democracy, and now the best electoral roll

YOURSAY 'Instead of working toward what is good for the country, the EC seem to be steered towards the direction of what is good for Umno.'

EC chief: Our electoral roll is cleanest in the world

your say Lin Wenquan: Indeed we have the cleanest electoral roll in the world as viewed through the grimy glasses of the Election Commission chief just as we have a better education system than US, UK, etc. as cheekily opined by our obtuse DPM.

We also boast about a host of plastic hubs of excellence and so forth. EC is in this catalogue of castles in the air. It should invite renowned and truly independent international observers to vet through the rolls to further attest to its claim as the world's best if the EC is so antagonistic to Bersih.

As matters stand today, the EC chief is already inviting disbelief, anger and vilification from the people who see him as a despicable, emasculated and above all, an incorrigible lying prevaricator in the service of Umno-BN in their desperation to cling to power at all costs 'over crushed bodies' and other gory scenarios painted by an equally desperate PM.

Gobsmacked!: I think it is more accurate to say that the reputation and record of the EC are among the dirtiest in the world.

It is unabashedly one-sided and work hand in glove with Umno to enable them to win in each election and in the process cheating the people of Malaysia by all sorts of means, both through commission and omission.

There is zero confidence in the integrity, impartiality and capability of the EC, hence we want the EC commissioners to resign. Let the people who can do the job professionally do it. Just get out of the way.

An EC without the confidence and trust of the citizens of Malaysia is like salt that has lost its taste. It has no use. It has to be thrown away.

Yvoon: Dear EC chief, tell us how many nations' electoral rolls you have checked - one, two, 10, 20, 200... none? Give us their names.

There are some 200 countries so you must have either done a lot of work to come up with your conclusion or you are trying to be funny.

There is a possibility that what you have said could be correct. You must have redefined the word "world" to be synonymous with Malaysia, ‘like a katak di bawah tempurong'.

Hello: The EC has been given names and numbers of specific instances of voters discrepancies and he has not been addressing these at all.

Ignoring these specific cases, he has the gall to say that the electoral roll is one of the cleanest in the world and intimates that he will not investigate and change the rolls. This is the kind of attitude of an uncivil servant. Let Bersih 3.0 show him the door.

Trueglitter: EC chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof is resorting to utterances which will be akin to a 'freak of nature' when he proudly retorted that 'our electoral roll is cleanest in the world' in apparent open defiance and in undeniable contradiction to the widely-held perception that it is indeed the most manipulated and outrageously rigged by the EC under obvious command from its BN political masters.

He has inevitably added insult to injury by his failure to comprehend the reality that more than sufficient evidence have been uncovered and exposed by the opposition indicating the rampant manipulations in providing dubious voters the right to vote, with the more worrisome situation when even foreigners can acquire blue IC empowering them be citizens with voting rights.

In fairness to all and to project a cleaner image that our democracy is one of the best in the world, if not its electoral roll, the EC should be sacked, beginning with Abdul Aziz.

Multi Racial: I do not think everyone in the EC are dirty. But I don't trust the EC chief and his deputy. They should go as they have credibility issue.

Instead of working toward what is good for the country, the EC seem to be steered towards the direction of what is good for Umno.

King Micah: The BN people like to speak in superlatives... like we are the best democracy and yet people can't have peaceful demonstrations but get mugged by paid thugs of BN.

KSD: Every organisation will say that they give the best services. But it is those who use the services who will be the judge ultimately.

The EC can say what it wants, the rakyat has decided that the electoral roll is among the worst in the world.

For instance, is there any other country that has given out citizenship for votes? Is there any other country where a husband and wife with the same address in their IC can be allocated to two different constituencies?

Anywhere else where 150-year-old people exist in the electoral roll? Anywhere else where illogical number of residents can be registered to one house?

Ksn: Yes, yes, Abdul Aziz. By the same token, you must be world's best jester of the year, right? What do you take Malaysians for?

Quigonbond: Guys, we're past talking and complaining to the EC. Let's just turn up this Saturday in massive numbers, come rain, shine or FRU (riot police).

What matters is Malaysians and the rest of the world know our electoral system stinks. We are humans. We have a hard wired sense of fairness and justice.

No way are we going to vote for BN even if we think some of their MPs are okay because we know that we need to vote for the opposition just to achieve a semblance of parity.
