The Malaysian Stadium Corporation is prepared to offer the Bukit Jalil National Stadium as the venue for the gathering planned this week by a non-governmental organisation supported by the
opposition.
Its chairperson, Jamil Salleh, said today the offer was being made in view of the rejection by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) of the organiser’s application to hold the gathering at Merdeka Square.
“We have no problem in offering the Bukit Jalil National Stadium as the alternative (venue). Furthermore, the organiser has given the assurance earlier (to DBKL) that the gathering will be peaceful and not disrupt public order,” he said in a statement.
He said the stadium corporation management felt that the gathering could be held in an orderly manner if it was held at the national stadium.
Jamil said, however, that use of the stadium was subject to specific conditions.
“The organiser will be responsible for damage to property and facilities at the stadium (if the gathering is held there),” he said.
