The sharp rise in the number of new voters in all constituencies is due to the Election Commission’s aggressive campaign, says EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

He said all constituencies saw an increase in new voters.

Speaking after launching a booklet entitled ‘ The true facts behind the allegations and slander against the EC’ , Abdul Aziz was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying that EC’s aggressive approach in urging those eligible to register themselves had created the sudden increase, especially in the fourth quarter of last year.

He denied allegations by the opposition parties that the rise was planned by the EC, as there are still 3.7 million eligible voters who have yet to register, as reported in Berita Harian .

Abdul Aziz also said that 5,000 copies of the booklet are being printed to tell the truth to the public over the allegations hurled by the opposition.

He added that the states which have the largest number of unregistered voters are the Federal Territories, Selangor, Johor and Perak.
