Four more protesters have claimed trial to a charge of obstructing public officers in performing their duties during a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) raid at Dataran Merdeka yesterday afternoon.

NONE Students Ekshan Bukharee Badarulhisham, 21 and Muhammad Aliff Hafiz, 21, as well as activists Shaiful Buhari Ramlan, 25 and Mohamad Karim Abdullah, 24 were charged with obstructing four different DBKL officers.

They are accused of stopping the officers from "shifting tents set up without permission at Dataran Merdeka" at 12.50pm yesterday.

They were charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.

If found guilty, they can be jailed for up to two years or fined a maximum of RM10,000 or both.

Magistrate Nur Azura Murah set bail at RM900 and one surety each for Mohamad Karim and Muhammad Aliff and RM1,000 and one surety each for Ekhsan and Shaiful, although deputy public prosecutor had asked for RM5,000 bail each for all four.

In their mitigation, lawyers for the accused argued that their clients were injured in the incident, while DBKL officers were not.

Representing them were Farhana Abdul Halim, G Sivamalar, Mohd Haijan Omar and Farida Mohd. The case is set for mention on May 10.

On Monday, Umar Mohd Azmi became the first of the Dataran Merdeka protesters to be charged .

He claimed trial to the charge of obstructing a DBKL officer from “apprehending and escorting” Occupy Dataran activist Fahmi Reza.

Fahmi, who was nabbed along with Umar last Sunday was not charged, and has been released on bail.
