As the April 28 green and yellow protest approaches, a restaurant has throw in its support for ‘cleanliness and environment protection’ with a unique gift for its customers.

Sunny Beach restaurant located in central Kuala Lumpur introduced its ‘Bersih and Green Week’ on Tuesday, giving a cup of green tea to all dining-in customers who are wearing green or yellow clothing.

This activity began on Monday and ends on Saturday.

It received much talk on Facebook , where a young user on Tuesday claimed that he really did get a free cup of green tea.

free green tea notice “Remember, make our country clean, promote environmental protection, all of us are responsible! Let us pick a day and go there together while wearing yellow or green, and get a green tea drink. But remember to dine too,” the user said.

The restaurant owner, who only wished to be known as Ms Yap, explained that they aimed at promoting “a love for the country and the environment”.

She added that many customers were unaware of their activity and received their free cups of green tea with surprise.

“We will explain to them, this is for advocating environment protection and cleanliness. If they want to think of that (green and yellow protest) direction, we leave it to them.”

On the accusation that Saturday’s rally would hamper business, Yap admitted that during last year’s Bersih 2.0 rally, as police had blocked many roads, their workers couldn’t come for work, hence business was halted.

But Yap stressed the positive side of the Bersih rally, saying that it was up to the public, especially the young, to highlight issues affecting the nation.

Asked if she was concerned about critics who would label her restaurant’s promotion as a cheap stunt, Yap replied that though some may think so, that has never been their intention, and neither do they expect an overwhelming response from the netizens.
