PAS should not provide leeway for Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita) president Zaid Ibrahim to contest in Kota Baru because the Kita's leaders are clearly seen as pro-Umno, PAS parliamentarian for Shah Alam Khalid Samad says.

NONE There should be no reason for PAS to soften its stance on the matter as many Kita leaders, such as Zamil Ibrahim and Tan Bee Heng, are vocal critics of Pakatan Rakyat, Khalid told a press conference today.

Citing Zamil's offer of his car as a reward for those who could track down the ‘Anwar Ibrahim lookalike' in the sex video made public by the Datuk T trio, the Selangor PAS deputy chief said organisations such as Kita and Jaringan Melayu Malaysia were not credible.

"They are plant organisations of Umno. So in this case, we should not give a seats to Zaid in Kota Baru, Kedah or anywhere in the country.

"If he wants to contest, we will take him as an opponent," Khalid said.

Zaid declared last month that he would contest the Kota Baru parliamentary seat in the coming general election because the seat belonged to him from 2004, when he was still in Umno.

He also announced that Kita would contest in four seats in Kedah – the Sungai Petani parliamentary seat and the state seats of Sungai Tiang, Gurun and Bukit Selambau.

'Accept conditions and contest under PAS'

Asked whether there could be a way for PAS to collaborate with Zaid, Khalid said Zaid should accept certain conditions to contest under the Islamic party's ticket.

“He must declare his loyalty to PAS and Pakatan, and confirm that he is with us.

NONE “Other than that, I can see Umno sponsoring Kita and there is no way we should give him leeway,” he said.

Zaid, a former BN cabinet minister, won much praise when he relinquished his ministerial post in 2009, after the government detained four individuals under the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA).

He then joined PKR as a vice-president and was fielded in the Hulu Selangor by-election in 2010, which he lost to the BN's P Kamalanathan.

Following an intense party election in 2010, in which he lost to Azmin Ali for the post of deputy president, Zaid quit PKR and established Kita, which he helms as president.
