Malay NGO Malaysian Islamic and Welfare Association (Pekida) never issued any directive for its members to hold a counter rally in response to today's Bersih 3.0 sit-in demand for electoral reform.

Pekida chairperson Roslan Dahaman said he has "not heard of any such plan" by any quarter from his organisation.

"We monitor our boys. We cannot stop (anyone from protesting)... But if you want to go, (and anything happens), don't blame others.

"We cannot stop them. We have a lot of members. So we should uphold the good reputation of the organisation.

He was responding to a news portal on Thursday that the Bandar Tun Razak branch of Pekida plans to stage a counter-rally against Bersih 3.0 and has mobilised its members to go Dataran Merdeka today.

Elaborating on this, Roslan said there were many groups opposing the Bersih rally, apart from Pekida.

"Just (follow the laws). Why do we want overrule the law? We do not like (the rally)."

The third installation of the street rally, Roslan added, was already making the lives of traders miserable and he hoped the authorities would take stern action against the organisers of the rally.
