Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow has been urged to respect an online survey conducted by the Tanjong DAP to determine whether he should recontest his former state seat of Padang Kota.

DAP state secretary Ng Wei Aik said the survey conducted from April 14 to May 1 - revealed that 75 percent (or 152 respondents) wanted Teng back in the seat, which is currently held by state DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow.

NONE Teng, who is Gerakan secretary-general, held padang Kota from 1995 to 2008.

"Only 25 percent or 51 respondents do not support Teng in recontesting the seat. So far, 203 people responded to the online survey," said Ng ( left ), who is Komtar assemblyperson.

"The result shows many agree that Teng, after being appointed to the post of state BN chief, should have the ability to fight for the seat again.

"They also hope that Teng can win the election on his own strength and not through the influence or power of Umno in certain areas," Ng said.

'Teng bullied by Umno'

He also maintained that Teng was Umno's choice as he could be appointed to the post of state chief despite him only being a Penang Gerakan ice-chairperson, while Dr Teng Hock Nan was his boss.

Teng, Ng added, has denied he was slated to become chief minister should the BN regain Penang in the coming 13th general election.

He also claimed that Teng was denied a chance to speak at the recent 1Malaysia lunch with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in Bayan Baru.

"Why did he not protest against Umno, which totally disrespected him? It seems Teng is willing to be bullied by Umno.

"This shows that Teng is willing to contest in areas where Umno has more influence, like Sungai Pinang, Machang Bubok and Batu Uban," Ng added.

He urged Teng not to "run away" to other seats or disappoint his supporters in Padang Kota who have been voting for him, lest he be labelled "forever an Umno puppet".

Teng has neither confirmed nor dismissed the possibility of recontesting the Padang Kota seat, although he has told the media that he would be a candidate in the polls, which should be called not later than June next year.

He has refused to divulge which seat he is vying for and said recently that seat allocations among the BN has to be discussed with all component partners before a decision is made.
