Karangkraf Media Group chairman Fickry Yaakub, 65, died of a heart attack at his home in Taman Tun Dr Ismail last night.

He leaves behind wife Robiah Mohamed and eight children. His remains were buried at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery in Damansara after funeral prayers at the At-Taqwa Mosque there.

According to his younger brother Hussamuddin, who is also Karangkraf Media Group managing director, the late Fickry had watched the Kelantan-Lions XII football match live telecast and skyped with his son in Canada before he died.

Fickry had vast experience in the education and newspaper industries. He was an educator at Maktab Adabi in Kota Bharu and had set up the Adabi Gaya Pos postal education system with some friends.

He was also an executive producer for Akhbar Exclusive and chief editor of the defunct Watan newspaper.

He also played a big role in the birth of the Sinar Harian newspaper in which he also wrote a column.
