The Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) has strengthened its collaboration with MCA to improve their chances of winning in the coming general election, said its president Peter Chin.      

He said the different levels of leadership from both parties would have more communication and sharing of information in their effort to face the opposition pact of PKR-DAP-PAS in the coming election.    

"MCA has its strengths and experiences. We will see how we can help each other particularly in the coming election. In the past, the collaboration was minimal, but now it will  be on a larger scale,” he told Bernama.     

He was commenting on the meeting that was held between SUPP's top leadership headed by him and MCA President Chua Soi Lek in Kuching on Thursday.     

Chua, at the invitation of SUPP, visited Sarawak where the MCA leadership held a discussion with SUPP on strengthening ties among Barisan Nasional component parties.     

Apart from the meeting, the two parties also held a forum titled ‘The Chinese at the Political Crossroad’ which was attended by leaders of the local Chinese community on Thursday night where Chua was one of its main speakers.     

Chin said the move was initiated by him as he felt that many thing had been taken for granted even at the national level, and the top leaders from the two parties also knew each other very well.     

"Although at the top level we know each other, there is still very little collaboration between the two parties. That why, I felt that effort must be taken further  to improve the situation,” he said.

MCA contests predominantly Chinese and urban seats in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah while SUPP, a Sarawak based multiracial party, focuses on urban and bumiputera seats in the state.
