YOURSAY 'They came only equipped to ward off the expected tear gas, chemical-laced water and the sweltering heat beating down on them.'

Former top cops want action against 'coup attempt'

your say Loyal Malaysian: I see a hidden agenda here. Look at the prelude to Operation Lalang by that ex-dictator who refuses to die.

The Umnoputras are trying to use their authoritarian powers to lock up those opposing their misrule.

Yes, this will surely include Bersih co-chairpersons Ambiga Sreenevasan and A Samad Said, and the rest of the Bersih 3.0 steering committee.

Bersih 3.0 has really rattled their nerves - that large numbers of rakyat have shown disgust at their electoral manipulations.

To accede to the loud and clear message for electoral reforms is akin to signing the death warrant for their rule.

I certainly hope my pessimistic forebodings will not come to pass, yet I hope the Pakatan Rakyat leaders have contingency plans lined up.

Ferdtan: The statement issued by the three former top cops mentioned that, "There has to be a basis because the prime minister cannot simply make claims."

Have they forgotten that Dr Mahathir Mohamad did make the wrong claim at a press conference when he claimed that Anwar Ibrahim 'boxed' himself to give himself a black eye to gain sympathy from the people.

Anonyxyz: One former police chief is sitting on the board of directors of Genting (Malaysia biggest gambling den), another who delivered a black eye to Anwar Ibrahim when he was in the lock-up, and yet another accused of being a partner with organised crime syndicates in the country. Need we say more?

Black Mamba: What coup? They came with salt, handkerchiefs, caps and water bottles to ward off the expected tear gas, chemical-laced water and the sweltering heat beating down on them.

IloveBN: I am 52 years old and have heard many ridiculous stuff in my life. This remark by three past IGPs (inspector-general of police) is the mother of all dumb remarks.

I don't know why all these people have to apple polish the PM. The only thing I can think of is they have all done something wrong and hope to keep the PM is power to get protection at least till the last day of their lives.

Malaysia is a democratic country, the people can chose who their leader should be.

Anonymous #96439371: Why are other retired IGPs are not joining the three stooges to say that the Bersih's Dataran Merdeka sit-in had the intention to overthrow the government?

The three of you must be out of your minds not to know that Bersih's main issue is to demand for clean and fair elections. Is that wrong?

However, do you people dare to condemn ministers and leaders who are corrupted and also strongly direct the police and MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to investigate without fear and favour? Can you three stooges do that?

Cannon: The staging of coups has never been part of our nation's political tradition. The armed forces chiefs have recently declared that our armed forces are above politics. The police force, which is engaging in politics, is siding with the ruling party.

So, how can a coup happen? Where's the evidence? It's the height of paranoia to think that just because of the huge turnout of protesters, the masses can stage a coup with banners, balloons and bare hands.

Slumdog: This is the expected standard of absolute drivel we have come to hear from the likes of Najib, Mahathir and the former IGPs.

To make such comments without any basis, except to instill fear amongst the kampong folks and the uneducated and rabid Umno members, is disgraceful.

How can unarmed and peaceful Bersih supporters without the backing of Umno's few hundred thousand police force, three million Rela members and the military, overthrow the government in a coup?

Bersih Attendee: The pieces are beginning to fit. Use the mainstream media to discourage the people from attending 428 (Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28).

When the crowd is beyond expectation, send in government agents to create trouble and blame it on Bersih; then get government-friendly NGOs (no good organisations) and retired ‘criminals' to call for all kinds of action against opposition.

Get the police to charge the most effective leaders and expect the cowed rakyat to accept a rigged election. Success guaranteed. Period.

Proarte : The only people planning a 'coup' are Umno and their immoral sidekicks who feel threatened when the rakyat want free and fair elections.

Surely stealing the election through corrupt practices is a coup in all but name.

Who barricaded 'Freedom Square'? Who fired tear gas and water cannon? Who roughed up people who were trying to disperse? Who gave the order to terminate the LRT services so that the public were sitting ducks to police brutality?

Are we surprised that former IGP Hanif Omar can make such a statement? This is the man who in open court said that being a board member and beneficiary of a casino such as Genting was not in conflict with Islam.

Therefore it is not surprising that he regards the rakyat wanting a clean electoral process to uphold the democratic process as ‘coup' plotters. This is the level of depravity which Malaysian governance has descended to.

I suppose Marina Mahathir too was plotting a ‘coup' against her father's corrupt party.
