PAS today filed another seven election petitions - five in Selangor and two in Perak - making it a total of 23 for the opposition party.

According to a report in Harakahdaily , the election results for two parliamentary and three state seats in Selangor are being disputed.

The parliamentary seats are Gombak and Tanjung Karang while the state seats are Gombak Setia, Bangi and Sungai Burung.

PAS Selangor deputy commissioner Dr Hatta Ramli said the two main reasons in the petitions are the Election Commission's extension of voting hours from 5pm to 7pm in Selangor and the different electoral rolls issued on nomination and polling day.

Hatta lost in a straight fight with BN/Umno candidate Dr Raman Ismail by a 13,000 vote difference.

He added that for Tanjung Karang and Sungai Burung, three more reasons are cited: money politics, unreasonable influence and transfer of voters.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN) filed two and one election petitions at the Ipoh High Court in Perak respectively.

BN is challenging the outcome of the Pantai Remis state seat, which was won by DAP Youth chief Nga Kor Ming while PAS is seeking to nullify the results in the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary and Rungkup state constituencies.

The Kuala Kangsar seat is held by International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz, who is also Wanita Umno chief.

In the petition, PAS member and registered voter in the Kuala Kangsar constituency Ahmad Jamaluddin Abdul Majid named Rafidah, returning officer Hassan Nawawi and the EC as respondents.

He is claiming that there were discrepancies in the ballot papers issued for the election.

As for Rungkup, PAS member Ahmad Fauzi Hussin is seeking to declare the election result null and void on the grounds that two non-citizens were allowed to vote while another registered voter was denied his right due to discrepancies in the voter registration list.

On the other hand, the BN candidate for Pantai Remis Wong Chong Sang is seeking to nullify the election result for the seat on the ground that Nga's nomination paper was incomplete and claimed that the latter made alteration after the close of nomination, on March 13.

He is seeking an order for the court to declare him the unopposed winner.

Today is the last day to file election petitions.
