Tenaganita executive director Irene Fernandez today gave a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya over remarks allegedly damaging to Malaysia she had made in an interview with an Indonesian newspaper last Monday.

Fernandez, who was summoned by the MACC to have the statement recorded, was seen to be accompanied by her family members and lawyer as she arrived at the MACC complex at 9.15am. She was at the MACC for about 90 minutes.

In a report carried by The Jakarta Post, Fernandez had claimed, among others, that Malaysia was not safe for Indonesian workers because it did not have a legal framework or specific law to protect migrant workers.

MACC director of investigations Mustafar Ali had said yesterday that Fernandez was not being summoned for an investigation.
