The magistrate’s court in Petaling Jaya was today told that the readings of the urine test for cannabis detection on comedy actor Mohd Saifulazam Mohamed Yusoff, better known as Saiful Apek, and three of his friends exceeded the threshold for drug detection.

Rozita Abdullah, 41, the science officer at the Pathology Department of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, said the finding was made after the readings of the tests on their urine samples were obtained on June 22, 2010.

When asked whether it was the screening or confirmation test that was more conclusive in determining drug presence in urine, she said it was the confirmation test.

The reason being that the screening test was not sensitive, she said during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Ishrakh Saad.

On Nov 1 last year, Saiful Apek, 42, and three of his friends namely Shah Zainatull Ehsan Al-Muazam Shah Yahya, 28, Shaiful Baharom, 24, and Noremy Mohamad, 28, had pleaded not guilty to consuming cannabis.

They were alleged to have committed the offence at the Narcotics Investigation Department’s office at the Subang Jaya police headquarters in Seri Kembangan, Petaling Jaya at 11pm on June 12, 2010.

Meanwhile, eighth prosecution witness Inspector Syed Mohd Rahayat Syed Mohd Ramli, 30, said he received the urine samples of the four accused from Chief Inspector Mohd Shaifuddin Zulkifli, 31, the intelligence officer at the Narcotic Criminal Investigation Division of the Subang Jaya police headquarters.

“After receiving the bottles of the urine samples of the accused, I checked the labels, which were written with their names and identity card numbers, and then kept the bottles in a locked refrigerator in my room,” he added.

All the bottles containing the urine samples were in good condition when they were in his care, said Syed Mohd Rahayat, adding that the bottles were then handed over to the Pathology Department of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital on June 18, 2010 for further action.

Saiful Apek, Shah Zainatull Ehsan, Shaiful and Noremy are charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides an imprisonment for up to two years or maximum fine of RM5,000, if found guilty.

They are represented by lawyers Zambri Idrus and Mohd Fadli Hashim.

The hearing before magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid continues on May 22.
