The Malacca Barisan Nasional (BN) has listed about 30 percent new faces as candidates for the 13th general election.

Malacca BN chairperson and Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said based on experience, 30 percent of the existing candidates would be dropped, to accommodate new candidates.

“I believe, in Malacca, several new faces will be picked and normally 30 percent will change,” he told reporters after visiting the Panasonic Industrial Devices Semiconductor (M) Sdn Bhd factory at Batu Berendam today.

He said the list of names had been submitted to the party leadership for a closer scrutiny.

On the action of DAP vice-chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim to leave the party after being attacked by leaders of the opposition for criticising the gathering on April 28, Mohd Ali said the action was apt.

“The action proved that DAP was an iron fisted party where its despotic leaders cannot be criticised,” he said.

In another development, Mohd Ali said the Malacca state government would use solar technology to generate electricity as practiced by Panasonic.

He said for a start, the state government would apply the technology at Seri Negeri in Malacca.    

The Panasonic factory, which started operations in 1990 with 900 workers, was the first in the state to obtain the Malaysian Green Building Index Certificate.
