VOXPOP 'For supposedly thinking lawyers to object to author Irshad Manji is symptomatic of how ignorant this country really is.'
Muslim lawyers want author Irshad Manji out
Disbeliever:
It looks like Persatuan Peguam Peguam Muslim Malaysia (PPMM) president Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar is holier than thou.
He has no sins and therefore he considers all other Muslims, including author Irshad Manji, as sinners. He also considers that his Islamic way is the only truthful one and all other Muslims are wayward.
It's sad but true that there are many Muslims who would condemn other Muslims just as Umno Muslims taking potshots at PAS Muslims of late.
Religion is a personal relationship with God, so why must people like Zainul Rijal act as if he is the only true Muslim in the world?
Blind Freddo : How you can possibly allow anyone into the country who might stimulate the Muslims to think?
For supposedly thinking lawyers to object to this woman is symptomatic of how ignorant this country really is. Well done Malaysia, you have lowered the reputation of this nation another notch.
Garrulous Gary: A pertinent question: Has Zainul Rijal read the book before he condemned the author?
Human Being: I thought lawyers are supposed to fight for freedom of expression. But it seems this group, instead of playing their role as lawyers, is playing the role of imams.
GoneBananas: Zainul Rijal, you and those control freak anal-retentives, who use religion as an excuse to wield power over others, are the cancer.
May the sun burn away the disease in your soul and teach you to open your heart to compassion, true understanding, and acceptance of those with ideas far more mature than yours.
Democrat 53: This shows people like Zainul Rijal are not qualified to have a decent discussion with anyone. Is this the true Islamic way?
You mean showing your butt to a lady is allowed in Islam? You mean offering beef burger to a vegetarian Hindu is Islamic? Why was there was no reaction from these Muslim lawyers to the fiascos at Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga's house?
Enough of your double and triple standards. Have the guts to have a debate with Irshad Manji after reading the book.
Otherwise, just hide your head under the ‘tempurung' (coconut shell) and use your connections to hide behind Umno, the civil service and our ‘truly independent' courts, police force and the religious authorities like Jais (Selangor Islamic Affairs Department) and Mais (Selangor Islamic Religious Council).
20121221Disaster: These so-called Muslim lawyers have very little faith in the Islamic teachings. They don't have confidence that the teachings can actually stand against all criticisms and excel by itself. Their reactions have actually tarnished the Islamic teachings.
YF : The real cancer of Islam in Malaysia is Umno. And since PPMM has no issues with Umno's corruption and predilection for porn and racism, then PPMM is part of the cancer too.
NFC denies hunting down whistleblowers
Starr: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) should be investigating National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) for money-laundering instead of probing the whistleblower.
The ongoing investigation of the whistleblower will put BNM in bad light and its governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz's image will not be spared despite her being voted the best Asian central banker.
Has she compromised her own integrity and independence for reasons of political expediency?
Anonymous #41809171: Penang CM Lim Guan Eng was sent to jail for distributing leaflets alleging the statutory rape of an underaged girl by former Malacca CM Rahim Tamby Chik.
And now former IMF head Dominic Strauss-Kahn is suing for US$1 million the West African hotel maid whom he was alleged to have attacked and raped.
Let us pray and hope Public Bank clerk Johari Mohamad does not end up being another victim of our perverted justice system.
Armageddon: Don't be surprise if Johari ends up in prison for breaking the Banking Law and NFC's chief executive Mohamad Salleh Ismail walks a free man.
‘Who you know' is how the system works.
No plan to set up second Bar, says deputy PM
Anonymous #02382443: Why the pathetic attitude of the silent majority of so-called learned lawyers? If they are not happy, move an EGM (extraordinary general meeting) and boot out the committee and show the 1,200 active lawyers who the boss is.
There is due process in such matters - one does not just call for the formation of a parallel body because they are not happy with the leadership.
People who mooted an alternative Bar Council show their immaturity, especially if it comes from another lawyer.
Hwa Shi-Hsia: The concept of a ‘silent majority' not having a say in the Bar is ridiculous. Lawyers, of all people, certainly know how to express themselves and are good at talking.
Maplesyrup: The silent majority amongst the Bar's 14,000 members could muster their strength and get people they want elected into the council.
If they indeed have the voice of the majority, that is what they should do. Starting a separate chapter will give the impression to others that perhaps the silent majority is neither silent nor have the larger voice in the Bar.
Traj: Following the DPM's logic, since the Attorney-General's Chambers, the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Election Commission (EC) and judiciary are biased against the opposition, can we then have an alternative set of them?
Msiakini4all: And can we also have an alternative cabinet consisting of intelligent people this time?
