Cooperation between PAS and Umno will facilitate addressing several woes plaguing the Muslim community, including the problem of liberalism, says sacked former Selangor PAS chief Hasan Ali.

Aside from that, Hasan added that this would also be able to address problems concerning Muslim faith, the Christianisation movement, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual (LGBT) movement as issues of pluralism, according to an interview in the weekend edition of Utusan Malaysia today.

"We must also be aware that nowadays there are various movements that are questioning the provisions of the federal constitution including Article 153 which touches on the Malay special privileges.

"Of late, sectarian and chauvinistic demands have grown louder, all this must be faced not only through our strong majority but with our strong faith and patriotism," he was quoted as saying.

Hasan who is also Gombak Setia state assemblyperson was responding to recent reports that have rekindled the possibility of talks between PAS and Umno.

However, the Kelantan Menteri Besar set several conditions for the meeting, including requiring Umno to "change its ways and to accept PAS and its Pakatan partners.

Past talks between Umno and PAS had generated controversy when Umno attempted to convince PAS to abandon its PKR and DAP partners in favour of forming several state governments with Umno.

Nik Aziz, however, had rejected the offer.
