Muhyiddin Yassin today attended the wedding of the eldest daughter of former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa in Bandar Bukit Mahkota, Bangi.    

The deputy prime minister, who arrived at 3.40pm, spent about 30 minutes chatting and feasting with the couple, Nusaibah Nasharudin, 25, and Mohd Nazri Husain, 27, and their respective families, and posing for photographs with them.    

Also seen at the ceremony were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Dewan Negara president Abu Zahar Ujang, Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor PAS commissioner and Jalur Tiga (Jati) president Hasan Ali.    

Nasharudin, who is also Bachok member of parliament, told reporters he was grateful to Muhyiddin and several other guests over their presence at his daughter's wedding, despite their differing political ideologies.    

He said the invitation to the deputy prime minister was made about two months ago, and his attendance was confirmed almost immediately.    

Nusaibah, the eldest of five siblings, is now studying for a degree in education at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia while her husband is an architect.    

Muzakarah mambo continues

Meanwhile Nasharudin said that PAS and Umno leaders should have an open mind to enable the proposed 'muzakarah' (dialogue) be held between them for the interests of the people and the country.     

He said if leaders of the two parties could come together for discussion, many issues could be resolved.     

"The conditions set by PAS may not be accepted by Umno, but I really hope that leaders of the two parties will have an open mind in making serious efforts for the benefit of the people and the country in all aspects," he told reporters at the wedding.

Prior to this, PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was reported as saying that PAS was willing to hold talks with any party, including Umno or non-government organisations, on issues of Islam.     

The statement received positive reaction, including from Muhyiddin.   

However, Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan Menteri Besar, stressed that Umno would have to meet several conditions that would be determined by PAS, including to have the talks be held before the upcoming 13th general election. 

‘Why only talk about Islam?’

Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed today meanwhile asked PAS not to set conditions for its proposed talks with Umno if the opposition party is really sincere about having the discussions.      

He said Umno had agreed a long time ago to the talks but PAS had imposed unreasonable conditions which derailed the attempts to have the discussions.     

"It is better that no conditions are set. There should be no conditions which can jeopardise the talks.     

"This is a good thing and should be welcomed by all quarters. Of more importance is the unity to be forged," he said after opening a seminar on nursing held in conjunction with the Kelantan-level World Nurses Day celebration in Kota Baru.     

Mustapa was asked to comment on a statement by Nik Aziz that he agreed for talks to be held with any NGO, including Umno, on condition that the basis of the discussions was on why people reject Islam.
