DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh has publicly challenged  Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow to contest the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat.

karpal singh pc penang 180312 Karpal, the incumbent MP, said Teng appears interested in taking on DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (in Bagan) and state chief Chow Kon Yeow (in Tanjung).

"So this is an open invitation to him to come and contest in Bukit Gelugor," Karpal said.

The DAP had earlier challenged Teng to contest in the Padang Kota state seat, which he had once held and which Chow now represents.

Initially, Karpal found it difficult to recall Teng's name, calling him "Chang" instead.

"See,  I can't even remember his name," he remarked, then went on to denounce Gerakan, MCA and MIC in Penang.

"They were not only destroyed but (were) completely dead in the last general election. Hope they do not wake up again from their grave in this coming polls," he said.

In an immediate response via text-message, Teng, ther Gerakan secretary-general, reserved comment beyond saying "Thank him for his kindness. He is so kind".

Karpal issued his challenge when addressing some 1,000 supporters at the DAP’s ‘Penang Election Machinery Gathering’ for the 13th general election.

NONE DAP handed over party flags to representatives of seven constituencies and 19 state seats that the party had won in 2008.

The party also launched its ‘I believe ( kupercaya )’ music video, and sold copies at RM10 each.

Prior to the start of the event, Karpal and Lim went round the hall to inspect the parade of supporters carrying DAP flags and who had lined up according to their constituencies.

The party leaders later took turns to beat a set of eight war drums, to send a strong signal to BN that the DAP is ready for the battle.

Karpal noted that the party had fought many battles since it was formed in 1966, also saying "what we have to win ultimately is the war".

"Penang has a special significance as the DAP had fought several hard battles here and eventually won the state in 2008, with the help of Pakatan Rakyat in 2008.”
