PAS insists on terms ahead of muzakarah
Umno should not find it difficult to meet the conditions set by PAS for a dialogue on achieving Malay unity, says PAS information head Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Umno should not find it difficult to meet the conditions set by PAS for dialogue on achieving Malay unity, said Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The PAS information head told Sinar Harian that since both parties were agreeable to a muzakarah (dialogue), the terms have to be clearly defined ahead of any discussion.
This includes the requirement that the electoral roll should be cleaned up before the next general election.
“Maybe the PAS and Umno presidents, and their deputies and religious leaders could hold the discussions,” Tuan Ibrahim ( left ) is quoted as saying.
Bernama reported last Saturday that PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had proposed talks with Umno, provided the latter changes its policies to better reflect governance under Islam.
Kelantan Umno liaison chief Mustapa Mohamed had said that the proposal for a dialogue is a “good suggestion”, but that there should not be any pre-conditions.
“The purpose is to achieve unity and the well-being (of the community), therefore conditions that could affect this purpose should not be set,” he added.
