PAS has postponed its muktamar (annual general meeting) scheduled for next month to November to enable the party to focus on preparations for the 13th general election, said its secretary-general, Mustafa Ali.

NONE Instead, he said PAS would hold a rally at the Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Star on June 1 as it gears up for the general election.

He said the postponement was decided by the PAS central committee at a meeting on May 13.

“We are fully focused on the general election which is expected to be held soon,” he said when contacted.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will brief party’s top leaders at a closed-door meeting to be held in conjunction with the assembly, he said, adding that a bai’ah (pledge of political allegiance) would also be held.

In the 2008 general election, PAS won 23 of 66 parliamentary seats it contested and 83 of 231 state seats.

It retained Kelantan and ousted the Barisan Nasional in Kedah.
