The Pahang state assembly, which ended its first meeting of the fifth session today, unanimously approved two motions on the appointment of two women leaders as senators.

Raub MCA Wanita chief Lim Nget Yoong and Bentong Umno Wanita chief Roslin Abd Rahman were appointed Dewan Negara members effective today till May 21, 2015.

In his speech, Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob described the appointments of the duo as a historic moment for the state assembly.

“This proves that the Pahang state assembly recognises the role of women as leaders and does not practice gender discrimination in the selection of leaders,” he said.

Four bills and four other motions were approved during the sitting.

The bills were the Supplementary Supply Bill 2012, the Investment (Authorisation) Bill 2012, the Syariah Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2012 and the Syariah Criminal Offences Bill 2012.

The other motions approved were on the development and supplementary supply estimates 2012, and the appointment of members of Public Account Committee, Standing Order Committee, and Rights and Privileges Committee.

The sitting was adjourned to a date to be announced later after 15 days in session.
