An ex-lawyer and a clerk pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to cheating a developer over the sale of a land involving RM280,000.

Ex-lawyer Zainudin Maksom, 40, and clerk G Naraynen, 56, were jointly charged with cheating Elite Prospective Sdn Bhd director Lim Seng Kok, 54, over the sale of a piece of land worth RM2.3 million in Mukim Damansara, Petaling District.

The duo allegedly duped Lim into banking in a deposit of RM280,000 to a CIMB account to Syarikat Zainudin Wan Nadzim Chua & Mazlinda despite knowing that the land could not be sold.

They were accused of committing the offence at a legal firm, S N Fam & Co at Quene Avenue, Jalan Bayam in Kuala Lumpur between October and December 2008.

The duo were represented by lawyer T Santhakumari while deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Nazneen Zulkifli prosecuted.

Judge SM Komathy Suppiah granted the duo bail of RM15,000 each with one surety and set June 5 for mention.
