MCA Youth has urged the Chinese community not to politicise the demand for a Chinese independent high school in Kuantan, Pahang.

mca youth agm 171008 selangor debater chong sin woon The wing's education bureau head Chong Sin Woon ( left ) said the party had received instructions from Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to follow up on the matter.

"Any party with the right conscience should not continue to hype up this issue. This is an issue concerning our education, hence it should not be politicised," he said in a press release today.

Chong was commenting on the Dong Zong organised rally in Kuantan on Sunday where some 5,000 people demanded that a Chinese independent school to be built there.

Chinese education groups have argued that there was currently no such schools in the state and students wishing to study in their mother tongue had been forced to relocate to other states.

The Pahang Federation of Chinese Schools Management Board has been campaigning to revive the Kuantan Chung Hwa independent high school since 1986, without any government response.

Chong said MCA was "ever-willing" to assist in establishing independent schools and has never wavered in this objective.

NONE "This is the consensus achieved after a discussion between MCA and the Pahang Federation of Chinese Schools Management Board.

"The government and the MCA place upmost priority on this matter and to achieve it, proper planning and in-depth discussions are required.

"Practical measures must be taken so that we can carry out this plan in the most efficient way," he said.

Chong said MCA had a track record of helping Chinese education, citing how the party managed to convince the government to accept UEC graduates into teacher training colleges and mutual recognition of academic certificates from China.
