The DAP has ridiculed Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha trumpeting the RM11 million revenue from auctioning ‘WWW' car number plates while maintaining a stoic silence over scandals involving his ministry running into billions of ringgit.

Kong may be the "most incompetent transport minister ever" for failing to defend public interest over multi-billion ringgit scandals happening "right under his nose", said DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua in a press release today.

"Instead, he chooses to hold multiple press conferences to announce record-breaking bids made for auctioned ‘WWW' car number plates which raised RM11.3 million in revenue for the government," said the Petaling Jaya Utara MP.

NONE Kong ( left ) has neither provided answers nor done anything to deal with the scandals occurring under his watch, and has chosen to blame others and shirk responsibility instead, he added.

He cited the RM2.2 billion cost overrun of the KLIA2 project which saw its estimated cost balloon from RM1.7 billion in 2007 to RM3.9 billion last year, criticising Kong for evading the issue by saying that the decision was not made by his ministry.

He also heaped scorn on the minister for his role in the Port Klang Free Zone scandal, where Kong had directed that payments continued to be made to the bondholders of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB) despite the fact that the Port Klang Authority has sued KDSB for RM1.6 billion.

In addition, the Business Times report that MMC-Gamuda is due to submit a RM1.5 billion variation to the government for cost overruns in the Ipoh-Padang Besar Electrified Double Track would mean a significant 12 percent hike in the cost of the project, he said.

Despite a denial from MMC-Gamuda on the matter, they have admitted that they will be seeking claims for "expenses and losses", he added.

NONE However, the transport minister has been "irresponsibly silent" on the matter, when Malaysians are looking to him to rein in the situation and ensure that the taxpayer's money is not wasted instead, Pua ( right) said.

"Malaysians do not need a transport minister who is only interested in reporting to us how much the WWW1 number plate was auctioned for RM520,000; instead of resolving and bringing to book the people responsible for the (various scandals).

"It is high time for Datuk Seri Najib to demonstrate his seriousness about transformation by disposing of incompetent ministers and appointing only those who are not only able, but also have the interest of the people at heart," said Pua.
