The Penang branch of the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) today denied the allegation by the Penang Malaysian Indian Voice Association that Kimma was involved in a demonstration in front of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s residence organised by the Malay rights group Perkasa on May 10.

Penang Kimma Liaison Committee chairperson Faruk Raju Mohamed said the party asked that Penang Malaysian Indian Voice Association chairman A Sathiyemurthy withdraw his statement and police report, and to openly apologise for his statement to the media recently.

“ NONE We were not involved at all in the protest. The police report made by Sathiyemurthy is false. I am warning him not to do so.

“They were using the issue to create misunderstanding among the races,” he told reporters after making a police report at the Central police station in George Town.

Recently, a Tamil newspaper reported that Sathiyemurthy had alleged that members of Kimma were involved in the demonstration and conducted a Hindu funeral rite by hanging a picture of Lim with a flower garland on the fence of Lim’s residence.

Faruk described Sathiyemurthy’s action as an attempt to seek cheap publicity for his self-interest.

Therefore, he said, his party would be taking legal action if Sathiyemurthy refused to apologise, and to withdraw his statement and police report lodged against Kimma.

On May 10, more than 70 Perkasa members gathered peacefully in front of the chief minister’s residence and Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (Komtar) to demand for Lim’s resignation as chief minister as he failed to protect the interests of the people in Penang.
