Beware, it's the season of propaganda
YOURSAY 'I would think foreign investors would see Bersih as a positive sign rather than a deterrent. A country with fair and clean elections is not a bad thing.'
'No impact on investment due to Bersih rallies'
Black Mamba:
The Japanese and the Americans have been doing business in Malaysia since we achieved independence. They know our people and culture better than we do.
They know Malaysians with its myriad races predominantly of Malay stocks will not descend into anarchy though we are great in ‘bitching' among ourselves.
The little spark of Bersih is nothing compare to the street demonstrations they have at most times in their own country, which on most occasions do number a million.
Bersih as they knew is just a tiny birth pangs of a country evolving slowly into a develop state when the citizens are better informed and exposed.
Come what may, in the event of a change of government, the Malaysian economy will just chug along in tandem with our neighbouring countries.
Didn't Indonesia had the worst of street mayhem during the Asian financial crisis? Today its economy is growing steadily and in fact catching up on Malaysia.
Chee Hoe Siew: So Bersih actually improve business growth in Malaysia? If that is the case, we should have more Bersih.
Comparing to the 34 percent growth in design and development expenditure by US companies here, RM3 million loss by traders as claimed by PM Najib Razak is a very small cost indeed and he should thank Bersih organisers for helping to grow business.
CAT Lover: Foreign investors will continue to invest in Umno crony companies as long as they think they can make a buck. They are no less greedy than Umno.
Change the government, and investment will still come. But we need to change the rules to make sure the Malaysian people will benefit from economic growth, instead of the Umno elite.
Armageddon: Investors ran away not because of the demonstration, but because of the way the police are handling the demonstration. The investors don't feel safe.
Disgusted: All investors want to see is a clean government without corruption and rules like the bumiputera equity, which is normally given to Umnoputras, under-table money and kickbacks, employment based on racial quotas and not on merits, breakdown of law and order where expatriate investors feel unsafe due to burglaries, snatch thefts and kidnaping.
Instead of keeping law and order, the police are too busy playing bodyguards to protect Umnoputras whilst going hard on others, especially opposition members.
Another deterrent is too much Islamisation which breaches the lifestyles of non-Muslims and imposing their religious rules at whims and fancies on all and sundry, whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims.
However, Umnoputras and above all the royalty are untouchable - they can commit any kind of sin, even murder, and not be charged or brought to justice.
SP Chew: Here, you can find two conflicting views: a frog eye's view versus an eagle eye's view.
Read again what Wong Siew Hai and Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin have said. Whom do you trust? The frog or the eagle?
Ruben: Well, Raja Nong Chik seems to now show his true colours and that is of a person that is hell-bent on getting elected no matter what the circumstances are, and at all costs.
As the Federal Territories minister, his track record is poor and Kuala Lumpur is especially worse off with him. I cannot think of any real achievements. So do we want him as an elected representative? No.
Also, what a contradiction - one minister, who is not qualified to talk about foreign investments, is saying that investors do not want to invest and the trade and industry minister is saying otherwise.
Amused Malaysian: One minister claims RM20 million of lost investment, the other claims all for the better. The lying must be planned.
Anonymous #06001393: Raja Nong Chick, the Bersih rally spooked a Korean investor? What a joke.
Korean companies are used to street protests. Bersih is nothing compared to what they have in South Korea. The minister should name the company.
Yellow Pages: I would think foreign investors would see Bersih as a positive sign rather than a deterrent to invest in Malaysia. A country with fair and clean elections is not a bad thing.
ACR: The politically-motivated hypotheses from Umno are so easily disproved; just two instances in days:
1) Malays have emigrated from Penang, but voter registration shows otherwise.
2) Foreign investment has been affected by Bersih 3.0, but industry association says otherwise.
Lim Chong Leong: Either the Umno ministers and PM are lying or Amcham governor for the Malaysian American Electronics Industry (MEAI) Wong Siew Hai is a leftist, gay, Christian, communist who is bent on destroying this ‘1Greatest' country.
