The National Association of Artistes or Seniman will propose to the government for the implementation of a minimum salary to artistes in the country.

Its president, Rozaidi Jamil, also known as Zed Zaidi, said the association was considering a system based on grade where the salary would be fixed according to a certain standard.

He said further discussions would be held with the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry and other related associations on the mechanism or formula to determine the grading of actors and actresses.

“It will be based on various aspects, like academic education, experience and other required qualifications to overcome, once and for all, the problem of salary payment for young artistes who are said to be paid more than the veteran artistes,” he said during an interview with Bernama Radio24 Dalam Radar ’ programme.

Rozaidi, the newly appointed Seniman president for 2012-2015, said the association would also submit a proposal for as allocation so that it could be made the body to collect and administer royalties for artistes.
