A lawyer has accused Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik of allegedly defaming and insulting him and the Bar Council.

NONE Legal practitioner Khoo Chye Beng said he had felt “threatened and intimidated” by strong words in a letter from Ng ( right ), forcing him to represent a client by the name of Tan Eng Hai, “if not something would happen” to him.

“That was my fear since receiving the letter till to date,” said Khoo in a press conference held by Gerakan legal and human rights bureau chief Baljit Singh in Penang today.

Khoo said on May 22, he had received a letter from Ng addressed to his law firm which was handed to him by Tan, who at that point was still his client.

He added that the letter stated that his (Khoo’s) unilateral application to the High Court to discharge himself from representing Tan was totally uncalled for.

Khoo stressed that the letter also asked that he continue to represent Tan as long as he has not discharged Khoo.

“The said YB stated that he would not hesitate to take further action against anyone who cannot uphold his or her professionalism in dealing with his client’s request,” said Khoo.

Khoo said that two days later, he  obtained an order in respect of his application to discharge himself from acting for Tan.

Khoo has since lodged a report at the Northeast Police headquarters in Jalan Pattani on May 31, and the report was received by Constable Norfazlina Abdullah.

Ng is rude, says Gerakan

Meanwhile, Baljit said Ng, who is state DAP secretary and Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, has become a “major embarrassment” to the people and state.

“His arrogance, rudeness and racist attitude in dealing with people is common knowledge and has become the talk of the town,” he added.

“These are not mere wild allegations but is something which has been reported to the police on numerous occasions,” he stressed.

NONE Baljit ( left ) than listed down several incidents where police reports had been lodged against Ng, claiming that the force has complained against the latter for acting in an “uncouth and rude manner” at the state police headquarters.

He said last year, Ng was at the centre of controversy when he was accused by several Indian Muslim traders of “threatening to throw them out” of Komtar and disallowing them from doing business.

Baljt then demanded that Lim explain he is retaining such an “insolent and racist” character as his personal aide.

He urged the police to investigate all the reports that have been lodged against Ng.

“Ng has clearly stepped beyond the powers of an assemblyperson one too many times,” he said.

Ng will be calling for a press conference to explain his side of the story tomorrow.
