Another 'Lai': Liow's reputation hits new lows

YOURSAY 'Once a price is put up in an open bidding, it is recognised and accepted as a commitment for the number plates.'

PKR: Liow's free WWW15 may crash JPJ bid system

your say Broom Squardo: If Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai is exempted from paying after bidding, than everyone else should also be accorded the same privilege and all the payments received should be returned to the owner.

That is called fairness. After all, a minister is only a public servant.

Anonymous #58437020: Poor Malaysians. We truly deserve better from JPJ (Road Transport Department) and this minister.

This comedy speaks for itself. We Malaysians elect our MPs to amuse us or to manage the country and keep our country's international image flying high, or what?

The JPJ and MCA public relations machinery should better come out with a statement that the rakyat can believe.

Mangodurian: This is daylight robbery and cronyism being played out. A minister gets into trouble for something perceived as corrupt and inappropriate.

In swoops another government department to waive a fee. It's like those who know someone, can get their summons cancelled.

Blind Freddo: Everybody who has more than two brain cells working at any given time knows that BN is rotten to the core. So what's the point in labouring over and over and over again every minor infraction that PKR can expose.

What I want to know is what is what PKR is going to do about it. They talk about a royal commission of inquiry for this and an enquiry for that, when what is needed is an overall plan to deal with every aspect of BN's criminality.

If you naively think that resolving the issue of corruption will solve all your problems, then it's you who are blind.

Solve corruption and you are left with a dysfunctional country that is wide open for corruption to develop.

The problem is corrupt people who see a potential to be corrupt. And that applies across the board, across races, across political parties.

D4f: Blind Freddo, why must it always be PKR to do something about this. Why can't we private citizens say something when clearly this is abuse of power by the authority?

Politics is not everything... if we as private citizens keep our mouth shut and sit around doing nothing, not even PKR or RPK or whoever for that matter, can help us.

Xtcher: It would be interesting if a member of the public could get hold of a copy of the tender document submitted by the Health Ministry to see whether the bid was a personal bid or the ministry's.

If it was a personal bid and the Transport Department had given it free then:

a) The department has set a precedent, and all successful bidders should use it to claim their money back.

b) JPJ, or whoever gave the order, has to explain the grounds of the decision and how it is going to make up for the money lost by the department with that decision.

However, personally I shall not be surprised that by now the documents and the official records would have mysteriously disappeared as in the Mongolian lady's case.

Politico Malasie: Can JPJ decide who should pay and who can get it for free? Minister, please wake up, something is very wrong with your management.

Just because Liow was cornered by bad press, JPJ announces his car plate number is free? How do you answer to other bidders?

Anonymous #12566075: This is yet another blunder by the BN administration. Once a price is put up in an open bidding, it is recognised and accepted as a commitment for the number plates.

How's terrible and stupid for JPJ to turn around and said it is free. JPJ is trying to fool public by helping resolving Liow's predicament following "you help me, I help you" slogan.

This is an insult to public's intelligence. This is yet an obvious reason why a change of administration (government) is urgently needed in Malaysia before further damage is done.

BH Yap: The Sultan of Johor should also be given a free plate then for his WWW 1 number. All of us should be given the numbers free, too, since we are taxpayers.

Politicians should focus on serving the rakyat, not what they can wrangle free from the state.

Multi Racial: I wonder there is any credibility left in Liow that can cause further damage to his reputation. Maybe to him, there is nothing to lose as he is already at the bottom.

Perhaps the only damage he could further aggravated are his party and his colleagues in MCA.

In this case, Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha is stupid enough to help Liow. His director-general must be cursing and swearing.

In any case, what is so surprising about such below-the-belt arrangement?
