The royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants and their impact on the electoral system will only focus on Sabah, the Dewan Rakyat was told during Question Time today.

NONE Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said the federal government does not share the opposition’s anxiety over the issue.

"We don't have a problem, no anxiety on the need for the terms of reference but he (Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim) is so anxious about it.

“This happened during the 1980s when he was deputy premier, (so) it will clear his name too."

He was replying Anwar’s supplementary question on allegations that illegal immigrants are being given citizenship for votes, and that their names are being inserted in the electoral roll in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Selangor in particular.

Anwar countered that if the RCI is formed only for Sabah, then the illegals may be transferred to other states because the nation’s focus would be on a single state.

"Even if they are transferred elsewhere, they will not be added to the electoral roll," retorted Nazri.
