Two incidents of theft and fire at the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) within one week has damaged some court evidence that are instrumental to the trial of those being charged over the PKFZ scandal.

According to China Press , the incidents happened on Jun 7 and 10. The perpetrators had allegedly set fire to some electric cables in an attempt to cover up the theft.

The police had arrested two suspects in relations to the incident. The stolen electric cables, worth over one million ringgit, were kept temporarily at PKFZ.

The stolen cables are important to both the ongoing criminal and civil proceedings involving PKFZ, said Port Klang Authority (PKA) director Song Kee Chai. PKA is the statutory body that governs PKFZ.

He urged PKA chairperson Teh Kim Poh and the Transport Ministry to beef up security or else more evidence might be destroyed.

Meanwhile, Klang Selatan district police chief Mohamad Mat Yusop dismissed the possibility that the theft and arson was politically motivated.

He said the detained suspects were drug addicts who allegedly stole the cable to fund their habits. He added that the duo have been charged.

Former transport ministers Ling Liong Sik and Chan Kong Choy are facing separate cheating charges in relations to the PKFZ scandal.
