PPP president M Kayveas has brushed aside talk that he will contest the Taiping parliamentary seat in the coming general election as the party had surrendered back the seat to Gerakan.

He said PPP had not regarded the Taiping seat as a good seat as it was not given in good terms by Gerakan.

"I am not aiming for any seat at the moment and will leave it to the discretion of Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak to decide on the seat which I should contest in the upcoming elections.

"But I have decided not to contest in Taiping any more," he told Bernama after attending the PPP Youth Convention which was officially opened by Barisan Nasional Youth chairperson Khairy Jamaluddin in Shah Alam today.

PPP wants Kota Alam Shah back

Gerakan gave up its Taiping seat, a seat it held since 1969, to PPP in the 2004 general election. Kayveas contested and won the seat in 2004 but failed to retain it in the 2008 general election.

The Taiping seat was one of two (the other being the Pasir Berdamar state seat in Perak) which PPP lost to DAP candidates in 2008.

Kayveas, who is a former deputy minister in the prime minister's department, said he was expecting a good parliamentary seat for his party in return of the Taiping seat.

"The party is also asking Gerakan to give back its Kota Alam Shah state seat in Selangor to PPP," he said, adding that PPP was seeking to make a stronger comeback in the 13th general election.
