PAS is almost done with its deciding its candidates for the next general election, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

"To date, I have been informed by the (party's) elections department that the issue of candidacy is over 90 percent resolved," he told reporters today.

He said this includes both parliamentary and state assembly seats and that the issue has already been resolved in Selangor.

However, he would not disclose the names of the candidates, nor the states where the issue is still lingering.

"I can't tell you (the states where candidacy is undecided). I do not remember them anyway. I just leave it to each of the states," he said.

1,000 delegates briefed

Abdul Hadi was speaking to reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the Selangor state-level Himpunan Hijau ke Putrajaya, at the State Secretariat Building's auditorium.

The closed-door event, which is unrelated to the Himpunan Hijau anti-Lynas protest, had the party's state leaders brief 1,000 delegates of its election machinery to prepare them for the general election, which needs to be called by April next year.

"We are ready since last year but now we are even better prepared" said Abdul Hadi.

The function today was also a run-up to a rally to be held at Kuala Selangor Stadium on July 15.

At the function, the party president also launched a new TV Impian service to combat alleged bias in the mainstream media.

"Democracy in this country is quite restricted. Opposition parties could only hold ceramahs, subject to terms and conditions, whereas the BN-led government used the government machinery including TV for campaigning.

"This is not fair. To overcome this, we have sought several solutions, and the launch of this TV service today is one of them," he said.
