The Higher Education Ministry has left it to Universiti Malaya (UM) to take action against its student who had allegedly insulted Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

Higher Education minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he was given to understand that the student, Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, has been suspended for being involved in a demonstration against the National Higher Education Fund Corporation on April 14.

"As a student he should be sensitive and aware of the situation in the country. It is up to the university (to take action)," he told reporters after the presentation of the 5A land title application forms to 75 residents of Kampung Pasir Gudang Baru, by Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman, Pasir Gudang today.

Haziq was believed to have questioned the Sultan of Johor's expression of anger towards former Perak menteri besar and Bukit Gantang member of parliament, Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin, who had criticised the Sultan's bid for the WWW 1 number plate.

A first year law student, Haziq would be suspended for one semester, from September.
