The office of the sultan of Perak confirmed that Sultan Azlan Shah had never issued any conferral or power of attorney to any party or individual to enable them to offer any ‘Royal Membership’ certificates, said state secretary Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan.

He said that the issuing of badges carrying the Perak state emblem and ‘Royal Membership’ as reported in the press on June 8 was against the law and in breach of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 1966.

“It is hereby stressed that the Perak state administration has never given any written permission to any party or individual to issue ‘Royal Membership’ certificates,” he told reporters in Ipoh today.

He said the Enactment clearly outlines the regulations relating to the coat of arms, flags, the offical seal of the sultan of Perak, official state government seal, the state coat of arms, honorary titles, emblems, medals and badges conferred by the sultan of Perak cannot be used by anyone except those with written permission from the Perak state officials.

He said the public should avoid being coaxed into acquiring ‘Royal Membership’ offered or promised by any party and urged all who have fallen victim to these acts to come forward and make police reports so that investigations may be carried out.

 

Abdul Puhat said his department had also made a police report regarding the matter on June 8 and 9.

He said the news report claimed that the sale of car emblems containing the Perak state symbol and ‘Royal Membership’ was accompanied with guarantees that those who owned them would receive immunity from law enforcers if they commit traffic offences as well as discounts for hotel reservations.

Based on the news reports, there were two parties issuing the ‘Royal Membership’, he said.
