Power firm Tenaga Nasional today said it has signed two agreements worth RM283.5 million, to buy power from small renewable energy power plants for 21 years.

In a statement, Tenaga Nasional said it will buy power from Sunquest Sdn Bhd and Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd.

The projects are part of the Small Renewable Energy Programme launched by the government in 2001 to promote renewable energy and to reduce emission of greenhouse gases, it said.

Sunquest's renewable energy power plant in southern Negeri Sembilan state uses oil palm waste as biomass fuel, while Recycle Energy in Selangor state uses municipal solid waste. Both plants have a five-megawatt generation capacity each. - AFP
